#InSpireMe: GirlTrek

Hey Dreamers! Here is some midweek inspiration for you! I try to pull away from a Netflix binge from time to time and find something to watch that will inspire me. Today I perused Ted and this is what I found. So many wonderful people are making a difference in the world, just by being passionate about life, living, giving, caring, and loving.

Something that stood out for me in the video was how women in general take care of everyone but themselves. Husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the list is endless and women are always the last, by choice.

I am Lakeisha, the daughter of Rita, daughter of Ruthie, daughter of Ella, daughter of Elzora, and  daughter of Ruth.

Ella died at the age of 50 due to a “bad heart” she birthed 12 children, 11 lived.

I never met my great-grandmother, I’ve always wanted to though. She left this place before my mother was even born. I was told she had a bad heart. How can a woman that birthed 12 kids, and start my entire family have a “bad heart”? Self care is so important, self love is important, putting yourself first is important.

“Walking 30 minutes per day can single-handedly decrease 50% of your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, even Alzheimer and dementia”

Get out there and move ladies, you owe it to yourselves.

Make Lemonade!

Hey dreamers!

We are so excited to get you where you need to be on the journey of life. But first we have to heal some things. A lot of us are introduced to pain at a young age, and it stunts our growth, The pain that we felt at 7, 10, 12, 15, etc still resonates with some of us. We carry it around like a backpack pretending it isn’t there.

It doesn’t take long for us to learn that life is not a fair + easy journey. Its riddled with thorns, cracks, sticks, rocks, and other unseen obstacles that cause us to stumble along the way.  Remember, that you are not in this alone, everyone is going through something, we all just make the best of it.

When life hands you lemons…make lemonade.

Cliche’, I’m aware, but true nonetheless. Intense focus on problems that are out of your control will not make them go away. In fact we don’t have as much control over the things that we think we do. Everything we go through, everything that is placed in front of us is a lesson. There are no losses, no feeling sorry for yourself, no beating yourself up, its merely a lesson that will only come back over and over again until we learn from it. While we are in that lesson, while we have those lemons in hand we should do our BEST to make them sweet. We should look forward to the other side of the storm where we can say, we made it through. I am not an advocate of wallowing in pain, things hurt, why hold on to them? Release toxic relationships, learn from them, forgive and move on. Its so important to your growth, ignoring it will not make it go away. Deal with it, whatever that looks like for you and go on to live the rest of your life.  Use the lemons for something better….

It’s About that Time

We would like to start by saying we appreciate you for taking the time to visit us. Our first entry will inform you guys of what our goals are within this organization for 2017/2018. This is a safe space, and we want our girls to feel the same way.

First we would like to bring our girls together by nurturing their dreams through examples of successful women. We want them to see that they are capable of doing whatever it is they dream of doing.

Second we want to teach girls about the importance of sisterhood and knowing that they are only in competition with themselves. Each day we have to wake up and make a decision to do better than we did yesterday.

Third we would like to help them gain knowledge on what it is to have self love, self care, and self awareness. It is important that we let them know how much difference loving themselves can make.

Volunteers are an integral part of this process, on the contact page you will find a form that allows you to fill out some information so that we can get in touch with you for our first event. We appreciate all of the support, and as we are just starting we are aware that there will be bumps along the journey but we are here to stick it out no matter what. Stay blessed and remember #ItTakesAVillage.
